On a step-by-step progression, the dogs are taught how to fetch a dumbbell; retrieving it by going over a high jump, returning back with the dumbbelll; drop on recall "a life saving exercise"; broad jump; and staying on a sit and down position with their handlers out of sight.

Prerequisite:  Acquired a passing score (leg) towards a Novice title in an AKC trial
